Sunrise

Sunrise is a city located in Broward County, Florida, United States. Situated just ten kilometers west of Fort Lauderdale within the Miami metropolitan area, Sunrise had a population of 84,438 residents according to the 2010 US Census. Originally developed in the 1960s by promoter Norman Johnson with a focus on attracting retirees, Sunrise emerged as a new city. It was officially incorporated in June 1961 under the name Sunrise Golf Village and later adopted its current name in March 1971. As Broward County experienced significant growth in the 1970s, Sunrise saw its population increase by over five times from 7,403 residents in 1970 to 39,681 residents in 1980, along with the expansion of the city's territorial boundaries.
