La Gorce Islands

La Gorce Island:  North Beach’s Premier Neighborhood

Located south of Normandy Isles and west of Allison Island, the guarded La Gorce Island is surrounded by the waters of Biscayne Bay. Only a short drive to the luxury shopping center of Bal Harbour, beaches, and in close proximity to the 79th Street Causeway, you are in the center of it all.

La Gorce Island was built in 1924 by Carl Fisher, the owner of Miami Beach Bayshore Company. He named the island in honor of his close friend Dr. John Oliver LaGorce who was President of the National Geographic Magazine Company. In 1936, the island was purchased by Frederick Maytag and his partner/General Manager, Mr. Quackenbush. The development of the island followed that same year, including landscaping and the building of parkways. When sufficient lots had been sold, La Gorce Island Association Inc. was born and assumed the responsibility via assessments on property owners. Today, this exclusive and tropical retreat offers stunning waterfront homes with spectacular design and lush greenery.
