North Bay Village: A Three Island Paradise
North Bay Village is a set of islands (North Bay Island, Harbor Island, and Treasure Island) located between Miami Beach and the mainland. Close to Normandy Isles, North Bay Village is linked with the other islands by the John F. Kennedy Causeway (79th Street), which extends across Biscayne Bay from Miami to Miami Beach.
Historically, most of North Bay Village lay beneath the waters of Biscayne Bay. But in 1940, dredging and bulk-heading created North Bay Island. One year later, palm-lined streets had been laid out, and 12 homes had been built and occupied. During that same year, dredging and filling created Harbor Island and Treasure Island. Today, North Bay Island has grown into a lush neighborhood of attractive single-family residences while Harbor Island is composed primarily of multi-family buildings. In addition, beautiful views of Biscayne Bay and a variety of restaurants and shops add to North Bay Village's appeal.
