Surrounded by lush parks

Pinecrest began to grow during the 1930s, thanks to Parrot Jungle and Gardens (now called Jungle Island), the first tourist attraction in the Miami vicinity. It continued to develop in the 1950s and 1960s with the construction of ranch-style homes. With its naturally lush landscape, Pinecrest is also known for its serene lifestyle—residents enjoy biking, picnics, farmer’s markets, and the numerous parks that surround the village, such as R. Hardy Matheson Preserve, Coral Pine Park, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and more. Pinecrest is also close to many shopping and dining options such as Dadeland Mall and The Falls. Fun fact—many of its streets are named after famous people associated with the area or after its native flora. For example, Kendall Drive was named after Henry John Boughton Kendall, a trustee of the Florida Land and Mortgage Company, while Palmetto Road and Pine Needle Lane were named after the native plants of the same name.
